"I am a passionate leader and educator who envisions and facilitates change, in many areas, to increase knowledge and service improvement. I am a strong advocate when I see possibilities for improving systems or support. I believe that knowledge not only fuels further exploration and research, but it also empowers people by helping them understand circumstances, and where to go for support.
I have held various Social Work roles, predominantly with a focus in geriatrics. My employment experience includes work in dementia support and education. I also provided Psychotherapy, in a health care setting, for younger adults and adults over 65. My qualitative research article, published in the Canadian Social Work Journal (2019), highlighted best practices for supporting the frail elderly in rural settings. The administration of Comprehensive Geriatric Assessments was explored.
I teach part-time at King’s University College, London, on a contractual basis in the Social Work program. I am currently involved in research and analysis regarding stroke education and suicide prevention. Personal experience, after the loss of my husband several years ago, highlighted gaps in knowledge and understanding in both areas. My purpose is to try to change that. I value opportunities to speak publicly to diverse populations with the goal of igniting a vision for change. With my emphasis on education and improving care, I am presenting my current findings. I believe we can not underestimate one’s ability to create and support positive change. It is my deepest hope that individuals and organizations will be inspired to learn more, contribute to ongoing research, help others, and ultimately save lives."
